Daily Update: Monday Oct. 4, 2010

Before Sami can admit to Rafe that she shot EJ, Gabi and Arianna stop by. Arianna notes the tension between Sami and Rafe while Gabi discovers they plan to get married soon. Arianna is upset, believing the news will kill EJ. For EJ's sake, Arianna agrees to keep the impending nuptials a secret. She remains determined to find out who shot EJ and bring that person to justice. After she and Gabi leave, Rafe decides he doesn't want Sami to tell him who tried to kill EJ. When she leaves, he vows to find a way to protect Will while Sami vows to protect Rafe from the truth.

EJ tells Roman he's willing to make a statement about the day he was shot, but pretends not to remember anything that happened after his wedding. Lexie insists to Roman that he no longer questions EJ. Roman realizes that unless EJ can name his assailant, the case is at a standstill. Stefano wonders why EJ didn't accuse Sami of trying to shoot him. EJ says he would then have to admit he remembers Rafe's interruption and accusations and refuses to be questioned by the police about his role in kidnapping Sydney. Instead, EJ will find proof of who shot him on his own and make sure those involved are punished. Later, EJ decides to use Arianna as his path to proving Sami shot him.

Justin and Adrienne realize that perhaps their divorce was a mistake and take a tentative step toward rekindling their love.

Brady and Nicole make love. Meanwhile, Vivian waits for Nicole to call the cops and free her. Brady lies to Nicole and tells her he loves her, but hesitates when Nicole asks him to free Vivian. She doesn't want to see him go to prison. After Brady leaves for a meeting, Nicole speaks to Vivian. When Vivian realizes Brady seduced Nicole, she's furious. Nicole has second thoughts about freeing her. Meanwhile, Isabella's coffin is returned to the mausoleum. Emotional, Brady realizes his mother would never approve of his actions towards Vivian. Justin enters, and asks about the coffin. Will Brady reveal the truth?

Rafe still believes Will shot EJ, and he encourages Sami to get everything out in the open. Later, Roman stops by. He's on his way to get a statement from EJ. Apparently, he's lucid enough now to talk. Sami hopes he won't remember anything. Rafe notes it won't stop Stefano from going after whoever did this. Later, after Roman goes, Rafe continues to press Sami. Finally, she snaps and says she knows who shot EJ. At the same time, EJ tells Stefano he knows who shot him. He claims he shot himself. He explains that he was drunk and thinking about committing suicide that night. Stefano corrects him by stating the facts. He believes it was most likely Sami, although now that he knows EJ took the gun out of the drawer, it could still be Will. Roman arrives to take EJ's statement. Will EJ finger Sami?

Vivian hopes Nicole will turn Brady in and get her out of the sarcophagus, but Brady starts to play Nicole. Vivian thinks Nicole is going to seduce Brady to get her out. However, Nicole is the one who falls for Brady's seduction instead.

Philip and Melanie lose another house and they find out Victor is behind it. It's clear his intention is to keep them at Maggie's so he'll have an excuse to visit. Maggie is perplexed. She told him there could be nothing between them. Philip makes a decision and decides he and Melanie will move back into the mansion. Victor has no choice but to accept this. However, he's slightly disappointed, as is Maggie...

EJ explains to Stefano that he's faking his amnesia to gain the upper hand over Sami when it comes to custody of the kids. His explanation is interrupted by a blood pressure spike, and Nathan makes Stefano wait outside. Stefano confides in Kate that EJ does remember everything. Kate is guilty about the secrets she is still keeping from her husband. When he feels better, EJ finally tells Stefano that he remembers who shot him.

Rafe brings Sami and the kids to their new home. Their domestic bliss is undermined by the situation with EJ, though Sami, Rafe and Will do their best to put aside their respective worries. Later, Rafe and Sami discuss getting married as soon as possible.

Nicole realizes that Vivian is in the sarcophagus and that Brady was responsible for putting her there. Initially, she thinks he's covering at Victor's behest, but after a visit from Victor, she realizes that Brady acted alone. Only Nicole knows where Vivian is.

Sami must continue the ruse with EJ that they are married and Rafe tries to be supportive. It's hard on both of them when Rafe walks in on EJ kissing Sami. Stefano comes to visit and EJ reveals to his father that he's faking and remembers everything! Meanwhile, Rafe takes Sami back to the Brady Pub, and to cheer her up, he wants to take her and the kids somewhere for a surprise.

Kate is worried about keeping two secrets from Stefano: her call to Sami ratting out EJ about wanting to take the kids, and that Chad is Stefano's son. She decides to ease her conscience by getting one secret off the table and calls Chad over, but doesn't tell him, just pitches him the idea of a paid internship with DiMera Enterprises. Chad gets the wrong idea and thinks Kate is coming on to him.

Sami realizes EJ thinks they're married and has no memory of getting busted at their wedding. Lexie tells Sami and Rafe that she must keep up the pretense or EJ's blood pressure could spike and cause a brain hemorrhage. Sami reluctantly brings Johnny and Sydney to see EJ. Johnny tells his father that he and Sydney are now living with Sami and Rafe.

Carly asks Chloe if she had the one night stand with Nathan. Chloe neither denies nor confirms her suspicion. Instead, she convinces her not to pursue the matter because she only wants to look forward. Philip, meanwhile, finds Melanie's perfect home, which is two blocks from Maggie. Melanie runs into Nathan and recalls when he said "I love you, Melanie" in his sleep. She covers with him, but she tells Carly the truth. Carly thinks Melanie made the right choice in choosing Philip. Meanwhile, Chloe runs into Philip, and tells him Carly suspects Nathan was her one night stand. She is convinced she nipped Carly's curiosity in the bud.

Stephanie nearly tells Nathan about the switched paternity tests, but pulls back and just tells him about her fight with Kayla. Nathan thinks it was over their living together. Stephanie neither confirms nor denies, but returns to her mom to face the music. Kayla, meanwhile, waits to tell Daniel he's not the father of Chloe's baby as they reminisce. Daniel reminds Kayla about a hospital mix-up in which Kayla saved the day. Kayla remembers it, and then has second thoughts about telling Daniel the truth. Later, she tells Stephanie it's possible the test showing Daniel is not the father was a simple clerical error and she thinks she knows a way to find out for sure.

Rafe and Sami get the call that EJ has woken up. EJ calls for Sami and refers to her as his wife. Rafe learns that EJ doesn't remember anything beyond the wedding, but thinks he is faking. Sami fears seeing EJ, but finally goes in. Will EJ remember what happened?

Chloe's remarks cause Nicole to go to Pookie's grave at the pet cemetery, and lament over her loss. Meanwhile, Vivian worries Brady will kill her, but his real concern is his mother and getting her remains back from the pet cemetery where Vivian put her. Later, Brady goes to the pet cemetery and speaks with the caretaker, Keith, to arrange a transfer. Unfortunately, Nicole sees him.

While talking with Carly, Nathan reveals his real feelings about Chloe. Daniel overhears and confronts Nathan about why he doesn't like Chloe. Meanwhile, Kayla overhears Stephanie and Ian talking about the paternity results and forces the truth out of Stephanie. Stephanie is a mess as she thinks all may be falling apart. Later, Carly comes to think Nathan may be the one Chloe slept with and goes to ask her. Nathan finds an upset Stephanie, who seems ready to reveal all even as Kayla appears ready to do the same with Daniel.

Stefano visits EJ and tells him he must wake up and finger Sami for trying to kill him. Will tells Sami that EJ briefly woke and said her name. Rafe is direct with Sami about his suspicion of Will. Sami is unwilling to let Will take the rap for her and is about to confess when Rafe gets called away. Meanwhile, Kate tells Will that Stefano no longer suspects him. She then tells Sami the same. Sami is tremendously relieved and decides not to confess. She tells Rafe everything is going to be okay. At the same time, Stefano tells Kate he doesn't understand what might've driven Sami over to the house to put a bullet in EJ. Kate contemplates coming clean with Stefano but realizes he would never forgive her. She ultimately keeps her counsel.

Arianna visits EJ again and he opens his eyes and asks where Sami is.

Nicole nearly ruins Chloe's baby shower with her untimely blurt. Chloe and Carly ably cover, and the fun continues. Nicole is eventually escorted out by Melanie to sleep off her liquor. When Nicole wakes, she's alone with Chloe, who blasts her. Nicole is sorry, and swears she won't breathe a word to anyone. Chloe tells Nicole that Carly is a better friend to her than she is. Meanwhile, Daniel is grateful to Melanie and Carly for their support and the successful baby shower. Alone, Carly murmurs to herself that they can never find out what she's done.

Ian tells Stephanie that Daniel is not the one who changed the test results, after all. At the same time, Kayla speaks to Adrienne about their mutual concern for Stephanie. Later, Kayla is shocked to overhear Ian and Stephanie's conversation about the test results.

Kate fantasizes about poisoning Stefano before she pours him a drink. Stefano tells her he's decided Will did not shoot EJ, and takes a drink. He accuses Kate of wanting to poison him – but she hasn't. Kate points out Stefano would have hurt Will if he thought he tried to kill EJ. Stefano and Kate realize that as much as they love one another, they can never trust each other. Stefano reveals that DNA evidence came up on the gun drawer for everyone who lived in the house (including Sami) – but not for Will. This means he never touched the drawer that held the gun. Stefano now thinks Sami was the shooter. Kate mentions Sami has an alibi, but Stefano isn't so sure. Not anymore…

Kayla makes a surprise visit to Stephanie. Nathan leaves for the hospital as Stephanie assures Kayla all is well and Adrienne overreacted. Kayla seems to be reassured, but privately realizes something is wrong with Stephanie. Meanwhile, Daniel stitches up Ian, who was in an accident. Ian realizes this is the Daniel who Stephanie thinks might have switched Chloe's paternity test. When he realizes Daniel left his PDA behind, he starts to go through it when Nathan enters. Ian hands the PDA back to Daniel when he returns. Daniel advises him not to come between Stephanie and Nathan.

Vivian is annoyed when she witnesses a close moment between Carly and Melanie. Later, Vivian tells Brady he'll never get away with his actions. Brady swears he'll make sure she's not around to wreak havoc in Salem again.

Nicole witnesses a tender moment between Chloe and Daniel, and regrets her own failed relationship with Brady. She runs into him and hopes for a rapprochement. Brady makes clear he will never forgive her. Nicole drinks, feeling jealous that Chloe, despite cheating on Daniel, gets her happily ever after. At the same time, Chloe's baby shower begins as Carly, Melanie, Maggie and Arianna attend to celebrate. Nicole arrives, and she blurts to all that Chloe is lucky to still have Daniel after what she did to him.

Stefano wants revenge on whoever shot EJ and he puts one of his men on the job. Kate knows Stefano still thinks it might be Will. Stefano warns Kate that if it is Will, action will be taken, despite the personal cost and loss to them.

Upset, Kate goes to see Philip. He tells her about Vivian, but she doesn't have much of a reaction. Thrown by this, Philip inquires and learns she's worried that Stefano has become consumed with finding who shot EJ. Philip reassures her it was no one in their family, but Kate is privately still worried about Will. Kate thinks of a deadly scenario to stop Stefano.

Stefano goes to the hospital and sits with EJ. He worries Will shot EJ, but vows to find out. Stefano's hired goon arrives at the hospital with the proof Stefano was looking for. He returns home to Kate, and it looks like she may put her idea in motion…

Lexie keeps EJ's progress from Stefano. She tells Abe that she doesn't want her father overreacting to EJ saying Sami's name. Abe agrees and fears Stefano would misinterpret and go after Sami.

Rafe continues to press Will, and just as it looks like he may come clean, Arianna interrupts. Will takes off, and Arianna defends EJ. Brother and sister have words and are at an impasse. Later, Rafe worries that if Will did shoot EJ, how will he protect him? At the same time, Will worries about his mom. He overhears Lexie tell Abe that EJ muttered Sami's name, and he fears it's only a matter of time until the jig is up.

Brady fires a Titan employee over a mishap, and Victor is impressed by the new, edgier Brady. Maggie shows up and hands Victor Vivian's earring. Meanwhile, Brady continues to taunt Vivian. She tells him Carly, due to the fear she has of Vivian, will not stop searching for her until she learns the truth. Brady realizes Vivian is right and sends a message to Carly that puts her at ease. Bo promises to protect Carly from Vivian. Back in the mausoleum, after a near miss with Philip, Brady vows he won't let Vivian out of her sarcophagus.

Bo helps improve Hope's condition in prison. At the same time, Victor reveals Vivian's e-mail and explains that she left because she knew Maggie and Victor belonged together. Maggie says nothing has changed. The two of them can never be together, but Victor doesn't plan on giving up.

Sami worries that Stefano will retaliate against Will, as he thinks he is the one who shot EJ. Just as she's about to confess, Stefano gets a call from Lexie that there's been a change in EJ.

Rafe is concerned Will shot EJ and tries to get the message across that he won't turn him in. Sami calls them to the hospital. Will tells his mother he thinks they should tell Rafe the truth, but she doesn't want to put him in a bad position. She promises Will if it comes to it, she'll confess. She'll save both Will and Rafe from this nightmare. Later, Sami makes love to Rafe as if for the last time. Meanwhile, EJ speaks again and this time Lexie hears him say Sami's name.

Kate is troubled by Stefano's suspicions of Will, and asks him to please not act on anything now. After Kate leaves, Stefano vows he must punish whoever shot his son.

Warden Jane Smith cautions Hope, and says she's worried about her. Hope tries to stay strong, but unfortunately, someone is out to get her. Meanwhile, Bo tells Carly the good news about Vivian leaving. Carly doesn't believe it and thinks Vivian is up to something. Ciara and Carly share a bonding moment over thinking Vivian is scary. Ciara gives Carly a gift. Bo and Carly are happy, until he gets a call from the prison - Hope has been attacked!

Using an audio feed, Brady taunts Vivian, who's locked in the sarcophagus. On the monitor, Vivian sees Victor order Justin to file immediately for divorce on grounds of desertion. Victor takes Maggie up to Vivian's room to prove she really has gone. Brady is troubled off a call from Bo suggesting they investigate. Brady checks the mausoleum to make sure there are no loose ends. Maggie enters on him talking to Vivian. Brady covers, and says he was having final words with him mom. After he leaves, Maggie finds one of Vivian's earrings on the floor.

Daily Update: Monday Sep. 20, 2010

To everyone's shock, EJ start to breathe on his own after the life support is removed. After some confusion, the prognosis remains the same. Rafe takes Will off and finally confronts him about his role in EJ's shooting. Kate, then Stefano, confronts Sami about Will. Will hangs tough, but Sami contemplates coming clean. Meanwhile, EJ, alone, whispers Sami's name.

While all prepare for Isabella's memorial service in the mausoleum, the newly-entombed Vivian is hopeful that Victor won't accept that she has left town and will discover what Brady has done. To her horror, Vivian watches the monitor feed and sees Victor, Chloe, Daniel, Melanie and Philip overjoyed by her supposed departure. Brady's conscience almost gets the best of him, but instead he toasts to his mother and the other woman who made this day possible: Vivian. In the sarcophagus, Vivian screams, unheard.

Stephanie comes to realize the one who switched the results might be Daniel as his love for Chloe is reaffirmed. Stephanie decides she's out of this, but Adrienne grows suspicious; she knows something is seriously off with her niece. She leaves a message for Kayla to come back to Salem.

Sami is faced with making the final decision on EJ's life. Rafe cautions her to consider the ramifications if she removes EJ's life support and he dies. Sami thinks Rafe knows she shot EJ, but learns he's worried that Will did it. Rafe assures Sami that he won't turn in Will. Kate is concerned about her own suspicions that Will may have shot EJ. She gets a call from Lexie to come to the hospital. Stefano can't let go and asks for a sign from EJ. EJ's heart monitor alarm goes off and Stefano takes that as a sign. He is finally at peace with saying goodbye to EJ. Sami has some last, angry words with a comatose EJ, then makes her final decision and has his life support turned off.

Brady has second thoughts about keeping Vivian in the sarcophagus. Vivian begs, cajoles and threatens Brady to let her out. She points out that questions will be raised if she doesn't show up for Isabella's memorial. Later, Brady writes a fake email to Victor from Vivian and takes some of her valuables so it looks like she left town. Meanwhile, Maggie tells Victor that he must accept that there can be no future for them. Later, Victor sees the email from "Vivian" and doesn't believe it!

Rafe has a disturbing dream about Will shooting EJ. Meanwhile, Will tells Sami that he will keep her secret. Rafe questions Will and senses he's keeping a secret. Kate confronts Will and lets him know that she is there for him…no matter what. Will asks Kate why she is interrogating him and confirms he knows about her phone call to Sami.

Sami goes to visit unconscious EJ. Lexie says EJ did love Sami. Rafe overhears Sami admit she loved EJ, too. Later, Sami admits to Rafe that she doesn't know what to do about keeping EJ on life support. Lexie tells Sami that EJ has taken a turn for the worse. Sami begs Lexie to tell her what to do… Daniel and Lexie realize that EJ isn't getting better.

Nicole pays EJ a visit and tells him to die. Arianna overhears and is furious. She gets into an argument with Nicole who figures out that Arianna has feelings for EJ. Arianna denies this. Nicole warns her that's how it started with her and EJ.

Brady has forced Vivian into the sarcophagus. Vivian thinks Brady is playing a joke, but quickly learns that he isn't. Meanwhile, Maggie goes to visit Victor. She runs into Brady and tells him about Gus's strange message. Later, Maggie tells Victor that he is the reason she is no longer leaving on her trip. Maggie asks Victor to tell her why exactly he married Vivian. He reminds her that it wasn't about love. Maggie lets Victor know that she's not ready to move on yet and he's still married so it is not their time.

Sami confronts Will about whether he will tell the truth. Will assures his mother he won't tell anyone she shot EJ. Meanwhile, Rafe asks Caroline if Will left the pub the night of EJ's shooting. Will overreacts to Rafe's fishing for his whereabouts. Sami has a heart-to-heart with Johnny about EJ.

Kate checks to see if EJ is faking his coma. She wonders to herself if Sami shot EJ because of her phone call. Chad comes upon Kate and offers his sympathy. He explains that he's looking for a job and going to Salem U. Later, Kate comes upon Will visiting EJ. She starts to pry about why he's there. She privately wonders if Will shot EJ. Will gets defensive with Kate and leaves the hospital room. He vows to himself that he'll protect Sami.

Vivian takes a vase and knocks out Brady. She's about to call Gus to help her dispose of Brady, but he wakes up and grabs her. Brady demands to know where his mother's remains are. He spots a receipt that fell out of Vivian's purse. Brady realizes that she buried his mother's remains in a pet cemetery. He becomes angry and corners Vivian, freezing her in her tracks.

Melanie is freaked out when she hears Nathan say he loves her in his sleep. Nathan wakes up and questions her strange behavior. Melanie tells him he said that he loves Stephanie. Later, Nathan runs into Philip who makes it clear that he needs to stay away from Melanie. Elsewhere, Melanie urges Maggie to face her feelings about what she really wants. Melanie assures herself that things are over with Nathan.

Hope is integrated into the prison population. She meets her new cellmate, Tina. Tina realizes Hope is a cop and attacks her. Hope asks Warden Jane Smith not to tell Bo what happened. Meanwhile, Ciara has a hard time understanding that Hope is not coming home for a while. Bo is worried about Hope. Ciara makes an effort to be nicer to Carly. Carly pledges her love and support for Bo.

Brady confronts Vivian. He realizes her plan is to bury Maggie alive. Brady, distracted by the discovery that his mother's remains are missing, gives Vivian a chance to knock him out cold.

Daniel probes both Carly and Chloe regarding Vivian. They assure him there is nothing to worry about.

Maggie interrupts a close moment between Melanie and Nathan. Later, Maggie receives a cryptic call of warning from Gus.

Stephanie uses a baby shower gift for Chloe as a cover to get into her apartment. She speaks with Chloe and they have a heart-to-heart. Later, Stephanie talks to Ian about the information she sent him from Chloe's computer. He determines that Chloe didn't switch the DNA results. Meanwhile, Nathan dreams about Melanie and she overhears him murmuring in his sleep that he loves her.

Sami admits to Will that she shot EJ. Sami asks Will to listen as she explains why she did it. Rafe enters and an upset Will runs out.

Carly argues with Vivian, who corners her by the sarcophagus. Carly warns Vivian to back off from everyone she loves. Vivian wonders why Carly is also protective of Chloe. Meanwhile, Daniel wonders why Chloe would be worried about Vivian, and Chloe covers.

Arianna talks to an unconscious EJ. She promises him that she will find out who shot him. She runs into Rafe as she leaves and they argue about EJ.

Kate and Stefano discuss who shot EJ: Sami or Will? When Stefano leans towards Will as being the possible shooter, Kate becomes defensive. She warns Stefano that if he does anything to Will, there will be war. They decide it's best to call a truce. Stefano, however, privately swears that no matter who shot EJ, they will pay.

Brady asks Maggie to come to Isabella's memorial. She tells him that she cannot; she is leaving on a trip. Later, Melanie urges Maggie to face her feelings regarding Victor. Melanie runs into Brady drinking at the bar and they discuss Maggie.

Vivian wonders what is going on between Carly and Chloe and vows to find out what it is. She fantasizes about different scenarios. Gus refuses to be a part of Vivian's plan to put Maggie in the sarcophagus. Vivian moves forward with those plans, but Brady comes upon her. Furious, Brady discovers his mother's sarcophagus is empty.

Lexie tells everyone that EJ's condition remains the same. In private, Kate asks Sami what she did after Kate told her EJ was planning to kidnap the children. Sami lies that she did nothing. They agree to keep Kate's phone call a secret. Abe informs Lexie and Stefano of the type of gun that was used to shoot EJ. Stefano privately realizes it was a gun that was kept at the house. He rushes home and discovers the gun is missing! Stefano tells Kate about the missing weapon and points a finger at Sami.

Will learns that EJ has been shot. He goes to the hospital and tells Sami that he knows what she did. Sami is stunned after Will states that he saw her leaving the DiMera mansion that night. Sami tries to deny it, but finally admits that she was there. Will tries to get her to admit she shot EJ, but Rafe interrupts. Earlier, Rafe tells EJ to wake up and face the consequences of what he's done. Arianna comes upon Rafe and asks what he's doing. They argue over EJ.

Maggie decides to stay in town and help Melanie plan Chloe's baby shower. Maggie later observes Victor's softer side as he bonds with Ciara. Her feelings for him resurface, and she decides she must leave for her trip immediately. Melanie once again confronts Maggie about her feelings for Victor. Meanwhile, Victor learns from Daniel that Maggie is staying in town for a while. In the mausoleum, Vivian forces Gus to get into the sarcophagus to make sure all the monitors and audio feeds work. After being set free, Gus tells his Madame that she must not go through with her plans. They argue as Carly comes upon them. Carly threatens Vivian and tells her to stay away.

Chloe and Carly put the past behind them. Elsewhere, Nathan asks Stephanie for the truth about why Ian is hanging around all the time. He points out that Ian has a crush on Stephanie. She is relieved Nathan doesn't know what she's up to. Stephanie admits Ian has feelings for her but she doesn't have any for him. Later, Stephanie plans with Ian how to prove that Chloe changed the paternity tests. She then shows up unexpectedly at Chloe's door...

Stefano pleads with a comatose EJ to pull through. Meanwhile, Sami seeks Daniel's advice about knowing when to pull the plug on EJ. Lexie confirms to everyone that her brother's brain activity is diminishing. Alone, Sami sits with EJ and contemplates what to do. Suddenly, EJ opens his eyes, and Sami freaks out. Is he waking up?

Vivian hints to Carly that Chloe hasn't told her new friend everything that happened. After Vivian leaves, Chloe confesses to Carly that she tried to kill her.

Philip tells Vivian to stay away from Melanie. Vivian wants Philip to see that she's an asset to the family. She mentions the project for Isabella but he is cruel to her. Philip asks Victor why he's staying with Vivian. Later, Vivian inspects the tricked-out sarcophagus with Gus.

Maggie explains to Melanie that Vivian is jealous of her friendship with Victor. Melanie tries to convince Maggie to stay in town, and then realizes she's leaving because of her feelings for Victor. Maggie hotly denies it. Later, Daniel is pleased when Melanie tells him she's throwing the shower for Chloe.

Ian uses his computer smarts to figure out that Philip could not have changed the paternity test. Stephanie now believes it might have been Chloe. Nathan walks in on Stephanie and Ian, and wonders what they're up to.

Rafe and Sami head to the hospital to check on EJ. They arrive in time to hear Carly tell Stefano that EJ is steadily improving. Stefano blows up at the sight of Sami and accuses her of shooting his son. Bo gets Stefano to back down and Rafe insists Sami was with him the whole night. Stefano hopes EJ will awaken soon and tell everyone who tried to murder him. Sami grows nervous. Kate warns Sami that they need to talk. Stefano notes that Sami is already engaged to Rafe and calls her a whore. EJ takes a turn for the worse. Lexie discovers EJ left Sami in charge of his medical decisions. EJ's life is now in Sami's hands. Stefano is outraged.

At the Cheatin' Heart, Melanie tells Chloe she's going to throw her a baby shower. Chloe is touched. After a shopping trip, Melanie and Chloe meet up with Carly, who offers to help with the shower. Vivian overhears and tries to snag an invitation, but Melanie blows her off and leaves. Vivian notes Carly and Chloe's newfound friendship and questions them about it. Meanwhile, Melanie tells Maggie about her encounter with Vivian. Maggie thinks it's her fault.

Stephanie overhears that Philip left Chloe's birthday party and disappeared for some time. She realizes this would be about the time the paternity test was switched. She tries to question him about it, but he angrily tells her to mind her own business. Later, Stephanie works with Ian to learn if Philip changed the test results.

Sami and Rafe share their engagement news with Caroline. Their celebration is cut short when Bo arrives with urgent news. In private, Bo tells Sami and Rafe that EJ has been shot. Sami already knows this, so she feigns shock; she's truly stunned, however, when Bo says that EJ is still alive. Bo asks about Sami's whereabouts, and Rafe says she was with him the whole night. After Bo leaves, Rafe can see Sami is rattled, but he thinks it's because she feels guilty about wishing EJ had died.

Carly and Daniel operate on EJ. He makes it through surgery but remains unconscious and in critical condition. Bo questions Stefano and Kate. Kate suspects Sami was responsible for shooting EJ, but keeps this to herself. She fears her phone call to Sami led to the shooting and fears what Stefano will do if he finds out. Nicole shows up at the hospital, and a livid Stefano points the finger at her. Nicole is able to provide an alibi.

Vivian eavesdrops as Brady confronts Victor about his feelings for Maggie. Brady warns Victor not to hurt her. Later, Vivian listens in as Victor calls Maggie and expresses concern for her safety now that the DiMera feud might be back on. Victor thinks it's best that Maggie is leaving on her trip. Once he's off the phone, Vivian tells Victor she's changed her mind – she's not going to Tahiti. She wants to stick around for Isabella's memorial.

Nathan congratulates Chloe on her pregnancy. She's offended when he asks if Daniel is the father and tersely assures him that he is. Elsewhere, Stephanie convinces Ian to help her determine who switched the paternity test. Meanwhile, Melanie tells Philip that she's going to throw Chloe a baby shower.
